The January transfer market proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible big-money deals. A number of prominent stars find themselves connected to transfers out of their current teams. This article explores a selection of the top figures that might be on the move this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to reach the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the forward available, it appears a major transfer is close. This 25-year-old possesses a contract featuring a substantial buy-out clause active for a short period in early January. Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his signature. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to other options, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This England defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool collapsing. As his contract due to expire in the close season, January is the London club's last chance to secure a transfer fee for their skipper. Numerous top clubs, such as City and several European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has had starting opportunities limited at Tottenham this term. Despite being the side's top scorer last season, he has started just a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the London outfit would be open to a sale for the correct valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in Saudi Arabia. Now just twenty-eight, and with his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to accept a reduced salary for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

This experienced German goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had an operation, a winter exit looks increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that move now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The prolific English striker has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of making the national squad. But, securing a deal poses significant hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge weekly wages render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as admirers.

As his existing contract running down, a host of English clubs – including Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are eager to tie down the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest young talents.

K. Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is heavily expected to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at approximately £22 million.
